A Warning?

February 7th, 2007 by Jon

Article VI has been following this “story” for the past few days.  OneNewsNow’s Chad Groening has penned an article titled “Former Mormon warns fellow Christians not to support Romney”.  OneNewsNow is run by the American Family News Network which claims to provide news from a “Christian Perspective”.

Now that we’ve got those details out of the way, here are the bonafides Tricia Erickson – the “Former Mormon” on whom Groening bases his entire article.  She is a

…woman whose father was a bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and who is a former Mormon herself…[she] spent her childhood growing up in a Mormon home and knows a great deal about that religion, which she considers a cult.

At no point do we find out anything else about Erickson’s “Mormon” chops.  We are, I guess, supposed to accept Ms. Erickson as an expert on all things Mormon.

Forgive me, Ms. Erickson, if I think you’re full of Kimchi.  If you don’t know what Kimchi is, go look it up.  Just because your father was a Bishop and you spent your “childhood” growing up in a Mormon home does not make you an expert on theology – Mormon or otherwise.

Would you do me the favor of proving the points you cited to Chad Groening?  Namely those claims that the LDS Church is now “facing difficulty”, that our missionaries are “are not doing as well out in the field” and that our “numbers are going down as far as new recruits”?  By proof I mean something other than your self induced delusions.  You are not qualified to decide who and who is not Christian.

As for you, Mr. Groening, shame on you.  You wrote a thinly veiled hit piece on Mormons using Mitt as an conduit.  You used a paper tiger of a source who can’t even stand up to the least degree of scrutiny.  In short, This. Is. Not. News.  Its not even good commentary.

Here’s a hint - Work harder next time.

[…] I caught wind of Erickson’s diatribes sometime ago and had to chuckle.  Her experience with Mormons ended during her teen-age years and yet she still claims expertise on a subject and people she’s long separated herself from.  Maybe she has delusions of working as a PBS documentary subject someday.  […]
