For the good of the country, now is the time to read up on Huckabee and understand that conservative principles are more important than political expediency. We’ll miss you Mitt!

  2. Jon Says:

Huckabee? Huckabee? Ellen you’ve come to the wrong blog. Huck’s days on the trail are numbered. He’s not a conservative and the electorate knows it.

  3. KATHY Says:

Sorry to hear your candidate dropped out; I can imagine your disappointment. I was shocked to learn that he had quit his bid for the presidency since he was second in the delegate count. I would encourage you all to think about supporting Ron Paul. Please don’t quit reading here. I know you probably might not like Ron Paul’s view on the Iraq war. Let’s put that aside for now. Ron Paul is the only candidate left in the GOP with a clear view of the sad state of our economy. He is the only candidate left who has spoken consistently and intelligently of cutting government spending, the looming recession, and the falling value of the dollar. His economic stimulus package is listed on his website at ronpaul2008.com Romney was my second choice because I could see he was the only other candidate that had a clue about the economy. I know there are differences in their economic opinions, but I think there are points of agreement also. I saw that someone else had encouraged Romney supporters to now support Huckabee. Please consider before doing this. Huckabee is a puppet. Sorry, but he is. He is big buddy to McCain now who is nothing more than a liberal democrat in conservative republican clothing. Most conservatives know this. The Huckster is his big buddy, and possibly primed to be his VP. I know the news media says that John McCain has many conservative friends and endorsements. Check out Ron Paul’s endorsements if you want to see real conservatism. You need only to look at John McCain’s record to know he is not one of us. If Huckabee supports him, neither is he.
The good of this nation is at stake and McCain/Huckabee is not the solution. Please google Ron Paul and check him out on YouTube. Decide for yourself, don’t let someone else tell you who to lend your support to now.

  4. Ron Says:

Thank God Ron Paul is still in. I would follow that man to the moon. I am not voting for a politican this term for President. I am voting for Ron Paul.

  5. Nancy of CA Says:

I too was so very sorry to hear about Romney leaving the race.
I was one of the California voters that was not allowed to vote Republican.
At some point when I registered years ago, I checked the non-partisan area as I’m sure at that time I was not sure which party I wanted to be affiliated with and I thought that gave me a better position because I could vote for whoever I thought was the best person for the job. That was YEARS ago and I’ve voted Repulican ever since.
I was so excited to go in and cast my ballot for Romney on SUPER TUESDAY. However, I was so shocked when I walked in and was told that because I was listed as non-partisan I could not receive a Repulican ballot. I could only get one of 3 ballots: (1) Independent Party, (2) Vote for propositions only and no presidential candidate, or (3) Take a Democrat Ballot.
Sorry Mitt, I would have been one more vote in CA but they wouldn’t let me. I believe there were many others, just not sure if it would have been enough.
Needless to say, I have called and requested that I be sent paperwork to change my status to Republican for future elections.
Now I really don’t know what to do because I do NOT want McCain and I’m not sure that the Republican Party “gets it” that there are so many anti-McCain Republicans out there.
Anyway, it takes courage to do what you think is best for the country. We salute your efforts and wish you and your family the very best!
Now it’s time FOR ALL OF US to really pray about what to do next!

  6. C21Judith Says:

I am so sorry Romney is leaving the Presidential race. I find myself hanging on the word “suspended.” Suspensions don’t last forever…. When will this one be over so all of us in your camp can breathe again? I’m a Texas senior who was so excited about going to my polling place for the first time in many years to vote for someone I believe in, instead of choosing the “lesser of the evils. I’m not at all sure what you are doing is for the good of the Republican Party. I will NOT vote for McCain OR Huckabee! Ron Paul is also out of the question. That means a vote lost for the Republican Party in the coming general election. I know many folks who feel, as I do, that by “suspending” your race, you are giving this election to the Democrats!!

  7. Rick Says:

Ellen: Thanks for your comment. I’ve read up on Huckabee, and what I’ve seen tells me that he’s a populist, not a conservative. I think he would be dangerous in the Oval.

Kathy and Ron: In the last few days I’ve met some rather sane Ron Paul supporters. I’ve found that you don’t all wear tin foil hats. Still, I don’t see it…

Nancy: That’s a shame. I’m sure there were plenty of people in the same boat as you.

C21Judith: I, too, find the wording of “suspend” curious. However, I think he’s done for this election cycle.

Folks, call me crazy, but I think we need another Jimmy Carter. 4 years of pure craz-azy to wake up the Republicans, and finally get a Reagan-esque candidate.

  8. KATHY Says:

I WOULD LOVE TO TALK MORE WITH THOSE WHO ARE NOT SURE WHERE TO GO NOW. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOUR CONCERNS ARE ABOUT RON PAUL. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME FOLKS WHO ARE INTOLERANT OF ANY CRITICISM OF THEIR CANDIDATE. I AM NOT ONE OF THEM. I WANT TO DISCUSS THOSE WITH YOU. IF I CONVINCE YOU TO JOIN UP WITH RON PAUL - GREAT. IF NOT, I DON’T THINK WE HAVE WASTED OUR TIME. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR. MUCH IS AT STAKE. I DON’T WANT TO SEE EVEN ONE VOTE LOST FOR CONSERVATISM. WHAT WE DON’T NEED IS MORE SOCIALISM AND MORE TAXES. LET’S GET OUR HEADS TOGETHER. I HOPE YOU ACCEPT THE INVITATION TO TALK.

  9. Heather Says:

Why not go independent? If Romney’s name isn’t on the Ballet as Rep, all that’s left is Democrats because Huckabee doesn’t have enought pull to win. Would that even be considered as an option?? I think more would pull for you than what this vote shows..

  10. Jon Says:

    Heather:

What Mitt did today he did as a Republican. He won’t go independant and neither will I. It’s time to deal with the cards we’re dealt - even if we don’t like them.

  11. Carla G Says:

ALL I want to say is that Mitt needs to rest up for Campaign 2012. We’ll need him then to fix the mess that we’ll be left with if Hillary or Obama become President.

  12. Rick Says:

Amen, Carla G. I doubt we’ve seen the last of Gov. Romney.

Heather: Gov. Romney won’t go independent, mainly for the reasons he indicated. That doesn’t mean I’ll vote for McCain in November. I won’t vote for the Republican just because he claims he’s the Reagan candidate.

McCain had better come up with better reasons to vote for him than, “It’s either me or Hillary.” At least with Hillary the GOP members in Congress would be on their toes.

  13. Kathy Says:

I have to say that I am very disappointed at those who have folded their conservative tents and are going to “swallow their pride” and vote McCain. Those with this notion are not just swallowing their pride, they are making a destructive move for our country. McCain is not a conservative, and no matter what he says now, he has proved it through his history time and time again. He will prove it even further when he is president. We wouldn’t be just swallowing our pride, we’d be swallowing a lot of garbage to believe that McCain has “seen the light” and he will now be conservative after years of proving otherwise. This candidate is a snake in the grass. I don’t give a hoot that he supports the war on terror. He has no economic know-how and thus the war is a moot point. He will bankrupt our country with this war, and will further threaten the existence of the middle class by taxing our fuel to solve global warming. Don’t buy into the lies that we have to support McCain now because he is the projected GOP nominee. Don’t buy that we have to unify against the dem’s by supporting McCain. If you support McCain, you are supporting a dem win. Some 65% of Americans don’t support the Iraq war and even more are tired of the ideologies of the Bush admin. on this. That is McCain’s big fighting point. It doesn’t ring true with people any longer. We all want to fight terrorism, but this nonsense in Iraq was a farse from the beginning and continues to be so. God bless all the families who have sacrificed loved ones in the name of fighting Osama Ben Laden and finding weapons of mass destruction. I would encourage you to look at the other GOP candidate. Look him up on YouTube. Look up his speech at CPAC. I know he is not Mr. Charismatic. He is a speaker of the truth, a man of the people and our concerns. We have had charisma time and time again, and found that it is only a front to win an election by making inspiring promises and then breaking them once in the oval office. Ron Paul has something more powerful than charisma - he has integrity in a solid voting record, and he cares enough about the welfare of this great nation to tell us the truth and not pander to every whim and fancy that the day brings. Please consider.

  14. Elan Says:

Myself like others are very shocked and disapointed that Mitt Romney quit the race. Why? I know that he said that it is for the good of the country but I believe that if he stayed in the race that would of had been for the good of the country. Look at what’s happening now, Huckabee is still winning, you don’t think that, that would of been Romney’s? Eveything that Romney touches turns to gold and that is what we needed for America!

  15. Janet Says:

I am so upset and disappointed that Gov. Romney has suspended his campaign. I keep hanging on the word “suspended” too. I cannot vote for McCain or Huckabee. I was so counting on Mitt to change Washington and lead this country in the right direction. I am very sad, now, not to have an option. (No, Ron Paul is not an option either)I agree with Elan. I think I will have to sit this election out. I just hope Mitt runs in 2012 to clean up the mess.
It is so hard to watch Huckabee winning Mitt’s votes because he is out.
    Not fair!!

  16. e burns Says:

congratulations on knowing WHEN to call it quits - unlike Huckabee who refuses to read the writing on the wall and is busy enjoying TAXPAYERS money on his little jaunt around the country - pure and utter selfishness.
Thank you for being the gentleman you are, and if, in the future, you can use a vote from Long Island you certainly have mine. Or, maybe, you will join McCain - that would be a great ticket.
