Not So Fast There, Mr. McCain

February 4th, 2008 by Jon

There is a time honored warning for farmers, ranchers, and politicians.  It can be best summed up thusly:

Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched.

Sounds pretty simple, but politicians seem to have a hard time living by it.  Hillary declared that she would most likely be her party’s nominee during a conversation with Her Royal Perkiness, Katie Couric.  She did this just prior to Obama’s meteoric rise.

John McCain has stepped in the same bear trap.  During a campaign rally in Nashville, he declared:

I assume that I will get the nomination of the party.

If I may be so bold, McCain has ignored the conventional warning about making assumptions – the one that states he who assumes generally makes an ass out of himself.  I present, for the record, this evidence to contradict McCain’s arrogant assumptions.

California – Mitt is up by 8 points in the latest Reuters/CSPAN/Zogby poll.

Colorado – Mitt is up by 19 points over John McCain.

Georgia – Mitt is up by one over McCain, but Mitt owns the trend.

Missouri – The Show Me State is a toss up with McCain, Mitt, and Huck all within the margin of error.

Captain Ed chronicles “Romney Rising”.

Powerline’s Paul Mirengoff is on the Mitt Bandwagon.

The MSM is head over heels for McCain – this is not disputed by anyone.

Huck continues to prove his complete irrelevance.  Now he’s taking cues from McCain and fabricating Mitt quotes just to get himself some free airtime.  That’s all I’ll say about Huck today.  He’s not worth the keystrokes or bandwidth of further discussion or argument.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this race has the possibility of getting very interesting very quickly.  McCain thinks he will run the table tomorrow and is desperate for this primary season to be over.  He’s out of cash and out of gas.  Every day he has to fend of Mitt will increase that desperation.

Here are two things you can count on tomorrow:  1) McCain won’t run the table.  2) There will be some surprises which will cause the punditocracy to eat crow – yet again.

I would love to see the “punditocracy to eat crow…” but they won’t eat anything. They are in it for the ratings, and this kind of stuff sells like nothing else.

Heh, heh. That mashup of Romney in the comment above is what is desperate. I bet McSpent paid for that with all the money he has left. Actually, it is so high on the vapidity scale that I’m sure it is another collaboration with Huckabee.

It’s not worth adressing from a policy perspective, so I’ll ask simply this: That’s all you’ve got after a year on the trail? There’s more great stuff on McCain just in just the last TWO WEEKS than you can dig up on Romney since a year ago JANUARY???

I’m still FOR my candidate. What are you against? Romney, or the Democrats? If you are for McCain, and against the Democrats, then you, my friend, are suffering from cognitive dissonance. Google that one and take your self loathing elsewhere.

    Nice try. Next…

Darn, looks like the silly anti-Romney mashup was suppressed. Too bad, it was a good laugh…

I’m feeling sick to my stomach because I just got a phone call that settles it. This election has turned into a big lie thanks to John McCain. I truly feel that if this guy is elected, the USA will be thrown into a downward spiral that we’ll never get out of. If he’s the Republican nominee, I’m going to have to look at Obama or Clinton as possibilities and that’s the truth.

John McCain is nothing but a liar. He’s lied about Mitt Romney’s position on “time lines” and now he’s using tactics (the same ones he used in Florida) that really are underhanded and borderline illegal. To receive a campaign call from someone who won’t reveal a telephone number on your caller ID is pretty low life. This guy is the anti-Christ. I worry about someone who can lie to us on national TV and then call us at home and represent himself as Mitt Romney to get us to listen and then drop a phone bomb on us like the message below.

I just received a campaign call from an “Unavailable” source, according to my caller ID. It was a female voice that said the following:

“I’m calling with an urgent Mitt Romney message.”

“We care deeply about traditional values and protecting families. And we need someone who will not waver in the White House: Ending abortion, preserving the sanctity of marriage, stopping the trash on the airwaves and attempts to ban God from every corner of society. These issues are core to our being.”

“Mitt Romney thinks he can fool us. He supported abortion on demand, even allowed a law mandating taxpayer-funding for abortion. He says he changed his mind, but he still hasn’t changed the law. He told gay organizers in Massachusetts he would be a stronger advocate for special rights than even Ted Kennedy. Now, it’s something different.”

“Unfortunately, on issue after issue Mitt Romney has treated social issues voters as fools, thinking we won’t catch on. Sorry, Mitt, we know you aren’t trustworthy on the most important issue and you aren’t a conservative.”

“Paid for by John McCain 2008.”

John McCain needs to be stopped and stopped now!

This needs to be exposed to the citizens of the USA before the election takes place. The media has a responsibility to expose this NOW.

  5. Fleeting Thoughts Says:

I am frustrated with everyone trying to get their finger into the pie. I know this isn’t related, but it makes me mad that McCain has received the most lobbyists’ money in the Presidential race.

I think I’ll vote for Romney, nobody can buy that guy. And besides he has skills.

McCain, he’s got………… um………. let’s see………… oh yeah, he has 25 years in the senate, tons of favors due, and has passed no significant legislation. Additionally, the guy has been consulting on military committees for 25 years - HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM and hasn’t kept us safe.
