McCain Wins…Ugly

January 29th, 2008 by Jon

In the end, there is something to be said for the candidate who wins a contest simply on the merits of his campaign.

Yes, McCain did win the Florida primaries tonight.

No, he did not win it based on the merits of his campaign.  He learned from the 2000 campaign that cheap shot politics in the closing days of the campaign does work.  This strategy may indeed win him the Republican nomination - in which case he’ll probably get beaten like a bongo drum by either Hillary or Obama.

I still hold hope that Mitt will do well in the Super Tuesday states.  This primary season is far from over.  Having said that, I do have one piece of wisdom for Team McCain.

There is a Proverb which states:

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind…

McCain has spent the better part of the past decade troubling his own house.  Over the weekend he put that effort into overdrive and now stands in very real danger of “inheriting the wind”.

There’s a difference between winning, and winning honorably.  All McCain did tonight was win.

Mel Martinez’s Freudean slip in comments on Fox at around 10PM Eastern (right after the results were announced) captured Florida campagin splendidly.

I am paraphrasing: “All we are trying to make sure is a Democ…/(belatedly correcting himself…)Republican victory”
Well, I hope someone has captured the bit and will post it.

    Gene.

Mitt didn’t lose tonight, if there were other people who watched his speech he won big!

He needs to keep that same message that he went on about tonight.

I’m with Mitt! Ex-Rudy supporter. No way I’ll support a McCain endorsement or a McCain campaign, not ever.

  4. Manny Says:

Tough loss for Conservative Republicans. Mitt is still my guy and I will support him to the end.

There are alot out there looking at “he who must not be named” as the only candidate that can be the Democrats in November. So what if he beats the Democrats! If “he who must not be named” McCain becomes the nominee. Republicans have to ask themselves? Whats the difference? “he who must not not be named” is just as Liberal as either of the Democrat candidates.
I would rather not vote than vote for “he who must not be named”

  5. Deborah C Says:

Talk about ugly! How about McCain who is: nasty, duplicitous, dogmatic and has an incredibly arrogant demeanor. It’s scary that he’s gotten this far! Wake up America!
