Wednesday News Roundup
November 7th, 2007 by JonI’m not sure what to say about Dick Morris’ latest prognostication other than to say he really doesn’t understand Iowa. The Hawkeye Cauci is all about the organizational ground game – which Mitt has been building for nigh unto two years now. Mitt leads there – and no 19% is not within striking distance of 27%. Nice try, Dick. Next time, try harder.Â
The NRO’s Jim Geraghty takes a look at the 2008 tea leaves and sees harbingers of a Republican landslide. Memo to Jim: Thanks for the cautious optimism. I want to believe. Really, I want to believe. End Memo.Â
Here’s a press release for an upcoming documentary on the Mormon issue. The film, A Mormon President, is set for a December 12 opening in Salt Lake City.Â
The Union Leader has an Op-Ed from Senator Judd Gregg on America’s need for Mitt’s leadership.Â
The State’s Aaron Gould Scheinin reports on the success of Mitt’s South Carolina ads.Â
Hearing Mitt’s footfalls, Fred declares that Mitt “can’t buy South Carolinaâ€.  Memo to Fred: There’s no whining in politics. By the way, 90% of winning is showing up – which you haven’t been doing very well lately. End Memo.Â
The Independent Mail’s Charmaine Smith-Miles reports on Mitt’s visit to an Anderson Chili cook off.Â
I guess there are worse ways to be ambushed. CBS has video.Â
The AP’s Liz Sidoti chronicles the problems Mitt’s opponents have in countering his money advantage. Simply put, if money were the only advantage Mitt has over his rivals, they’d have an easy time picking him off. Their dilemma is neatly summed up by Evan Tracey, president of the political ad-tracking firm TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group:Â
The problem is when you face a guy like Romney, who is both raising and donating, you can’t calculate what he will or won’t do. You can only calculate what you can and can’t do.Â
Excuse me whilst I wax Orwellian: All candidates are created equal. Some candidates are created more equal than others.Â
Also from the AP, Seanna Adcox reports on Mitt’s plan to encourage adoptions.Â
This Huckabee endorsement is just a little too much to believe. C’mon people, is nothing sacred?Â
As long as I’m in the endorsement neighborhood, DryFlyPolitics has an interesting post on Pat Robertson’s reasoning behind his endorsement of Rudy. I’ve never been a fan of Robertson and wouldn’t have chased his endorsement anyway. If anything Robertson support will hinder Rudy.
